To say that I have revamped a dresser or two in my time is an understatement. Dressers are fun to make over simply because they come in all shapes and sizes and there are so numerous techniques you can transform them. This Distressed Dresser Makeover was my most up-to-date project.
Matt discovered it like Charlton Home this on the side of the road!
Yes, the side of the road! (Make sure to follow along with me on Instagram. I share all of my finds there!)
It has noticed greater days and was a tiny rough, but nonetheless structurally sound. Instead of just displaying you yet another painted dresser, I wanted to share how I easily distressed this a single. Each and every piece I make more than is distinct and from time to time they aren’t so straight forward, but this one particular was so simple that I wanted to share how I did it.
Supplies Applied For This Distressed Dresser:

Charlton Home style=”color: #ff00ff font-size: robillard transitional loveseat 14pt”>DeWalt Orbital Sander
Orbital sander pads
I began the makeover by painting the whole dresser in “Lily Pond” from Fusion Mineral robillard transitional loveseat Paint.
DeWalt Orbital Sander.
If you are a newbie DIYer or a seasoned DIYer who is looking for a superior sander, this is the 1.
I use this point ALL THE TIME! It is the finest.
To distress the paint, I waited for it to totally dry and then ran the Charlton Home DeWalt sander on the prime. If I wanted additional paint to come off, I added extra pressure, but I seriously just let the sander do the function. I do pay close interest to make confident and distress where “natural wear” would be (the edges and corners) with less emphasis on the center.
For the smaller places and in corners exactly where I can’t get the sander, I hand sand with one particular of the orbital sander pads.
I get so excited to do the sanding aspect of every single makeover. That is when each piece requires on its own personality and gets all its character. It in no way gets boring. 🙂
I kept the knobs all-natural. They highlight the dark wood that is popping through the paint.

The sides of this dresser didn’t distress a great deal. That’s okay. I didn’t force it and just let the sander do its magic.
I don’t often do this, but I did use a wax right after the sanding.
The wax deepens the color a tiny bit and adds a protective coat. At times soon after I sand a piece, I don’t like the way the paint looks. The wax smooths out the color and enhances it. This distressed dresser surely needed it.
It normally amazes me what we locate on the side of the road. It doesn’t take place all the time (I want it did), but we have found some wonderful pieces that folks want to just throw in the landfill. Distressing furniture doesn’t have to be scary or make you hesitant to attempt it. You do require some tools to make it happen, but as soon as you have them, there is no limit to what you can do.
Do you make over furnishings?
