This project brought together some of my preferred points that have been sitting in the garage for a whilst: a piece of red barn wood and old, wood drawer fronts with rusty hardware.

Barn wood is incredible and anytime we can get our hands on it, we get excited. This piece of red barn wood was provided to us by an individual who works with my husband. It is beautiful and I wanted to discover a project that I didn’t have to alter or reduce it at all.

The drawer fronts are from a tiny store that was closing in the region.

When I went out to the garage to brainstorm some project concepts, I brought out the drawer fronts and the barn wood and talked over some concepts with Matt. He is so great to bounce suggestions off of because he knows what we would have to have to do to make my ideas come to be a reality.

Following substantially discussion, we came up with a good idea.

The initially point we did was make the drawer fronts into bins.

To do that, we cut the drawer fronts down.

Then, the pieces we cut off became the sides of the bins.

This is what they look like from the inside right after we added the sides.

We reduce thin plywood to fit inside the bottom of the bins.

The plywood match inside the grooves that had been on the back of the drawer fronts.

Now, we have bins prepared to be place on the barn wood. (I wrote a post all about how we make DIY wood boxes that goes more in detail Right here.)
